According to the Tico Times, Residents of Costa Rica are able to leave the country without risk of losing their residency status and having to start the process all over again.

This is good news for temporary residents who are on the path of obtaining permanent residency, considering the time and money it costs to establish Temporary Residency.

Considering there are no flights in or out of the country, and the border with Nicaragua and Panama are closed to non-residents, it does not affect most who are still in the country. It is welcome news to those who left after the restrictions were announced by the President in late March. If you know anyone who may have been affected by the ruling, you should inform them of this news.

Unfortunately the outrage of many who were faced with the stressful decision to leave the country and lose their status or remain in Costa Rica will likely outlast the virus.
