There are still a few of us who remember the original Flamingo Marina before it closed in 2003.
The story of how the Marina came to be is a great one and should shared with all local residents. The Marina is what helped put Flamingo on the map and made it an international destination for sports fishing entusiasts from around the world.
The Mariner Inn, and its infamous Spreader Bar, now known as Scooters, overlooked the Marina and Potrero Bay. A small airstrip was the quickest way to access the area, other than traveling for hours on a pothole filled dirt road from the main highway.
For those new to the area, you may find this story very interesting. The article wriiten by Karl Kahler for the Tico Time back in 2016, highlights the brief history of our community and some of the people who opened the door for the rest of us.
